Discover 7 Core Teaching Strategies To Become A Terrific Teacher

At times, teachers may feel inundated with theories, methodologies, teaching strategies, etc.etc.etc.

But please know that you can decide on how you want to run your classroom, and how you want to apply your teaching strategies.

One bit of information that I always pass on to my student teachers and teachers with little experience, is that it’s important to learn from more experienced teachers by watching them teach and reading as much as they can about any teaching strategies they have written. After that they will be in a much better position to pick and choose the teaching methods that suit them them the best.

Here are my top “7 Essential Core Teaching Strategies” that have held true for me throughout my 33 years of teaching from K-6.

1. Classroom Management is the teaching strategy that I consider to be most important in creating an effective teaching environment to ensure that your lessons will run smoothly and each teaching day will be a success.

There are many facets to ensuring effective classroom management including assertive classroom discipline, classroom behavior management, verbal and non-verbal communication strategies, classroom rules and classroom time management. Learning the details behind these essential classroom management strategies is the first step to success.

2. Know your students well. You should have different expectations for each one of your students. It is imperative to create a genuine bond with them (by the way that works both ways).

3. Continually Encourage and Motivate. Have your students set their own goals, helping them to attain them and then strive for new ones.

4. Build an effective teacher student relationship by displaying a caring and compassionate attitude towards your students. Show that you’re interested in them as people and they will return the favour (in most cases). Be sure to build up their self worth by maintaining a positive disposition.

5. Maintaining a communication dialogue with parents is very important. You are responsible for and accountable to your students so you must be professional, ready to meet and discuss any situation with parents. In some cases this will require a fair bit of tact and diplomacy on your part. On the other hand parents must respect you and your efforts as well.

6. Teachers need to show accountability primarily towards their students. But they are also accountable to parents, their school and themselves to provide their best effort every day throughout the year.

7. Teaching is “the best profession ever” if you have a real passion for it. Show your love for what you do, have FUN with your students and you will all benefit and learn from your experiences.

Digest these teaching strategies, play around with them, and implement those that fit your style of teaching. I truly hope that following these strategies will help you out and will make your life a little easier.

Try These Strategies and Have Fun!

How To Design Science Activities For Middle School Students

Science activities can be very effective learning tools if they are properly designed. A properly design science activity will engage students, it will entertain them and it will introduce a science concept in an interesting way. Science activities that are not properly designed will be boring and basically a waste of class time. Below are four tips that will help you to design an effective and fun science activity for your middle school students.

Tip #1 Make the Activity Active

The best way to make a science activity more interesting and fun for students is to make it active. Active science activities are going to get students moving and interacting with science tools and concepts. A good example of an active science activity is having the students go outside and to collect data on plant and animal species on the school ground. On the flipside, an inactive science activity is having the student complete a worksheet. As you can see the first activity is going to be more fun for the student because it gives them something novel to do.

Tip #2 Make the Activity Interesting

One problem that science teachers have is making science interesting to their middle school students. This age group has all ready developed a set of interests and anything outside that set of interests is basically ignored or thought to be boring or uninteresting. In order for teachers to develop an interesting science activity they will need to find a way to connect the science concept with something that the students are interested in. For example, if the activity is about electronics concepts then the teacher can incorporate remote control vehicles or robots in their activity.

Tip #3 Make the Activity Relevant

Another way to get kids engaged in a science activity is to design is so that it is relevant to them. This is a good idea as it helps to show kids that what they are learning about does impact them and their lives. Teachers can link science concepts to what is happening in the world today by using news stories and products in their introduction of the science activity.

Tip #4 Make the Activity Quick

Middle school students still have a relatively short attention span, particularly when they are faced with a science activity. Teachers need to make sure that the science activities that they plan do not exhaust students or last longer than the activity can keep their attention. The timing of a science activity generally will be 50 to 75 percent of a single class period for middle school students. Longer activities will need to be a lot of fun or very interesting.

The Significance Of Free Laptops For Students On The Web

Technology plays a big part in the lives of people today including the students. With the emergence of the World Wide Web, students gained access to more learning materials. They can do their own research without having to walk all the way to the library and spend time looking for the books one by one. But not everyone has the luxury to be able to afford a computer of their own, particularly a laptop, that is why students surf the net for Free Laptop for students offers.

Computers are cool gadgets especially if you are looking for a pass time. But computers today are seen as more than just for entertainment purposes, they are essential tools especially as aides in the students learning. Desktop computers are common among households, but for people who live life in the fast lane, a laptop is a great choice.

Laptops are lighter and compact. They can be used anywhere and anytime. If you need to finish some work urgently then the laptop will come in handy. You just need to sit down, open your laptop and you can start working already. A more creative presentation can also be creative through some software. The internet is also accessible anytime in case you run into some trouble with and about almost anything.

Companies who maintain their own website recognize the students need to have their own laptop. And as a marketing strategy, they came up with the idea to give away free laptops to students. They make use of promos, contests, surveys, and some through a laptop test. A free laptop is always enticing. Of course, who would not want to have cool gadgets for free?

Companies will also benefit from giving away laptops. It will attract web users to visit their websites and at the same time be able to advertise their products to them. The laptop test is also instrumental so they can collect feedbacks of their products from a buyers perspective. This will help them identify which areas of their product needs improvement.

There are many sites that you can find that give away free laptops. But be careful of falling victim of scams that claim to help you get a free laptop. Legit sites will not ask you to pay anything for claim your laptops so be patient enough to research about the sites first before you get too excited.

Homeschooling High School – How Much Is Too Much Writing

One frequent variation on the “how much is too much” question for homeschooling involves high school writing. Specifically, what is a usual, acceptable level of writing to ask your high school students to do?

Most high school student curriculum seem to have one 5-6 page paper assigned one or two times per year, with some smaller papers in between. In public school, students are generally asked to write one or two papers like that per year. I personally asked my children to write 500-1000 words per week when they were in 11th and 12th grade. That was about 1-2 pages typed and single spaced, most weeks of the year. It wasn’t all “English” because at times the papers were for History, French, or Art.

This might look like too much to you, but the reason our writing program was successful was because I taught my kids at their level, and I knew how much to push them so they wouldn’t break. That’s why homeschooling works. If you have them write AT THEIR LEVEL, they can learn. If you have them write too much, then they will get irritated, angry, or worse, rebel. I realize that I had my kids write a lot, and I know it was more than most. That’s what my kids did because they were capable, and both ended up being excellent writers. But the reason it was effective wasn’t because of how much I had them write, it was because I asked them to work at their level.

Trust yourself on that. If you are involved with a writing program, and the requirements are killing you – STOP! You’ll discover that each child in your family could be different, as well. Perhaps if you consider having them write for, say, an hour a day, that would be a more reasonable measure for high school. If you feel that your child is being asked to do too much, then I am 100% confident that it is too much.

Have them write each day, and have them write different things. Good writing is all about practice, which means that they do need to do some writing every day. But don’t push them so hard that they dislike writing. Keep a “five year plan” in mind, where they have a love of learning at the end of this wonderful homeschooling.

Be Sure To Familiarize Yourself With The Laws And Requirements When Homeschooling.

Homeschooling can be very confusing when it comes to knowing the laws. Make yourself aware of the laws in your area for a better and easier experience.

When choosing to begin homeschooling or homeschooling in various states, be sure to become familiar with the homeschooling laws of the state you’re in.

Even if you’re in a state for a short period of time and legally reside in another, you are still subject to the laws of the state that you’re currently in.

Although homeschooling is legal in all 50 states, there are different forms of homeschooling regulations in different states. These are based on different criteria that the state chooses to use as the basis for their laws.

Some states require no letter of intent that you’re going to homeschool, while others do, and the time at which you have to submit one can vary. You may have to submit one at the very beginning of your homeschooling, or not until your child has reached certain requirements.

*** Testing

Some states require standardized testing, while some only require an evaluation by a qualified teacher. Fewer than half the states require testing.

*** Graduation

In states where homeschools are operated as private schools, the graduation requirements for private schools usually apply to the homeschoolers as well.

There are states, however, that have no “official recognition” equal to graduation, so even if a student has gone through all 12 school years, they can’t actually say they’ve graduated.

*** Support

For information on the laws in your state or for legal support, you can consult many different organizations. (See resources below for more information.)

Be aware of your rights and the requirements for your area. This makes homeschooling much easier for everyone and you know where to turn should you have any issues that need resolved.

Why Even Gifted Medical Students Need to Take USMLE Review Seriously

Medical students who are intellectually gifted and talented often perform individual tasks at a very high level. These students display exceptional memories and learn at a rapid pace. They are knowledgeable about things which their colleagues may not have even heard of yet. But in the USMLE world, a gifted student may also exhibit extreme anxiety more than the average medical student. Here are some truths about giftedness which will further explain why no medical student should deny themselves the opportunity to participate in an adequate USMLE review:

1. Gifted students are often perfectionists and idealistic. They may equate achievement and grades with self-esteem and self-worth, which sometimes leads to fear of failure and interferes with achievement.

2. Medical students who are gifted may experience heightened sensitivity to their own expectations and those of others resulting in guilt over achievements or grades perceived to be low.

3. Most of the gifted students are asynchronous. Their chronological age, social, physical, emotional and intellectual development may be at different levels.

4. Some gifted students are “mappers” or sequential learners while others are “leapers” or spatial learners. Leapers may not know how they got a right answer. Mappers may get lost in the steps leading to the right answer.

5. Gifted students may be so far ahead of their colleagues or classmates that they know more than half of the lesson before the school year begins. Their boredom can result in low achievement and grades.

6. Gifted people are problem solvers. They benefit from working on open-ended, interdisciplinary problems.

7. Gifted individuals often think abstractly and with such complexity that they may need help with concrete study and test-taking skills. In the USMLE world, they may not be able to select one answer in a multiple choice question because they see how all the answers might be correct.

8. Gifted individuals who do well in school may define success in getting an “A” and failure as any grade other than “A.” Thus, in their USMLE review sessions or a practice test any result that is not a “perfect” result and does not make them feel they are at the top of their class, may make them feel frustrated.

Thus medical students who are gifted and talented need opportunities to work hard on challenging learning tasks. Participating with fellow students in a rigorous USMLE review is an opportunity for talented student both to learn and to be understood by their colleagues. In fact the most gifted students may benefit from such reviews as much as, if not more, than the “average” or “below-average” student.

How To Impress Your Teacher With Great 8th Grade Science Projects

Although nobody will expect entries for 8th grade science projects to be outstandingly proficient and altogether scientific, there are a number of ways in which you can make a good balanced project that will stand out and that will amaze the people who will see it. The main concern will be the validity of the information provided and the reliability of the sources used.

In many ways a project will have to tackle a subject that is either imposed by the teacher, or some topic that will be investigated by the student himself. In the latter case the student ought to pursue a certain subject that he feels drawn towards, something that he is interested in and also something that will be challenging. Many 8th grade science projects will be judged on the originality of their content, or rather, on the originality of the method in which they are presented.

Getting to know the subject at hand as well as possible is also very interesting and challenging. The teachers may be interested in finding how well prepared the student has actually been, and he may ask questions regarding the subject that were not included in the project itself. That’s why a little history and a little bit of focus on the entire area of the subject will be very important from the student. There’s no better way to impress a teacher than to know the information presented without hesitation.

Another aspect that needs to be prepared carefully will be a practical application or a specific set of visuals to go along with the project. If there is a possibility to include a video or a slide show, there will be further praise for the student. Also, a video may be just as good, and given the ease with which a laptop computer can be integrated, a multimedia display may prove very important as well.

Another way to make your project stand out is to think of it as a tale, as a story. There is tension and plot and suspense that can be used in your presentation. Start out by making an almost unbelievable statement that will arouse the attention of the crowd and then slowly bring out the facts. Keep your information clean and well presented, make pauses, and allow for the audience to focus and to think.

The best results are those that require the extra bit of attention and a bit more work. In the field of education there will be different levels of preparedness and the 8th grade science projects will be judged according to the standards of the age group, but still they should be well done and a good learning experience.

ACS Student Loans

An ACS student loan is a loan that is serviced by the Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. It is a company known for outsourcing technology and business solutions. Universities across the country use the ACS student loan services because of the company’s reputation for using technology to effectively handle some of the more difficult aspects of loan services.

ACS student loans allow students to make payments online, instantly be able to see the status of an account, make changes to personal details such as name and address, and also to be able to receive email notifications when a payment has been processed.

Many different programs for financial aid fall under the heading of an ACS student loan. One of the major ACS student loan groups is the Campus Based Student Loan Program (CBSL), which includes Federal Perkins Loans, Nursing Student Loans (NSL), and Institutional Loan Programs, among others. Another major group of educational loans handled by ACS is the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFEL), which includes the Stafford (GSL) Loans, PLUS loans to parents of students, and loan consolidation services. ACS also has the ability to handle many other groups of educational loans donated by a variety of private companies.

For those who do not already have an ACS student loan, applications and guidelines for different financial aid options are available online. The ACS website gives a clear example of how to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, and demonstrates what the results mean in terms of your eligibility for financial aid. Furthermore, applications for both Stafford and PLUS loans for parents can be found on the ACS website, and can be completed and sent in online.

If you are the holder of an ACS student loan already, you may be interested in knowing about the benefits of student loan consolidation. The ACS website provides information and application forms that could help you lock in a lower rate and reduce your monthly payment amount.

Some other tools that can help you with your ACS student loan are a repayment calculator, guidelines from the IRS about how to use your student loans for tax relief, and a glossary of important student loan-related terms.

All in all, an ACS student loan is one that will give the borrower plenty of ease and flexibility when it comes to loan servicing from application to repayment and consolidation. ACS works with a number of universities across the United States, including the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Vermont. Even if your specific university does not offer student loans handled by ACS, their website is a treasure trove of helpful tools and information, and well worth a look.
